NAD+

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide is a co-enzyme in our cells mitochondria.  The mitochondria are the energy sources within our cells.   As we age, this critical co-enzyme decreases.   Oral supplementation usually does not dramatically increase our NAD+ levels because of digestion and the body’s absorption mechanisms.  Augmenting oral supplementation, with intramuscular (in your muscle), subcutaneous (just under the skin), or intravenous (IV) injections help restore your NAD levels.

NAD is an exciting therapy being used in anti-aging, longevity medicine, and addiction medicine.  Intravenous infusions (IV) vary from 250mg to 500mg and are usually run over 1-2 hours.  Intramuscular or subcutaneous injections are usually 100mg and have less side effects than the IV version.

We usually observe patients for 15 minutes prior to discharge.  Side effects vary and resolve quickly with stopping or slowing the IV.  Side effects from the injections self-resolve and typically last a few minutes.  The most common side effects are feeling “flushed”, nausea, muscle aches, sinus congestion.
